Svadhishthana - the flow chakra

Translation: the favoured place, the place of 'sva' (self)
1 Line Summary: Discovering and going with the flow of emotions
Colour: Orange
Location: navel to pelvic bowl
Represented in the Physical Body by: genitals, reproductive organs, kidney, adrenals, bladder, pelvic area (lower back and intestines), abdomen, liquids and fluids of the body eg cirulation
Symbol: 6 petal lotus
Element: Water - brings movement and life
Sense: Taste (you need water to taste)
Gemstones: moonstone, carnelian, tourmaline
Purpose: links the individual to life and nurturing as well as relationships (self and others), creation & creativity, sensations, pleasure and sex, your subconcious mind, brings self reliance, intestional test, optimism, warm hearted, gentle stimulation and brings purpose and change, solve problems, develop and grow, courage, broadens life, governs the attraction of opposites
Analogy: go with life's currents and feel what stimulates, rejuvinates, creates desires or repulses. Go with the flow to see what you find or how you may need to alter your path.
Emotion/feelings: Water governs your emotions. It also governs relationships, desires, satisfaction and passions. It governs your unconcious mind and your impluses and desires, overcome the unconcious mind and find greater fulfilment in life, provides movement, enables other elements to mix and form life. The qualities are ragas (attraction) and dvesa(repulsion) ie your likes and dislikes /tastes. It governs your impulses and desires, and your need to take action. It balances giving and receiving. It is where you set you intentions (san kalpha) but where your true nature resides. It links people to the tides, can make you feel like pushing away what you don't like, and attracting more of what you want (and spending more energy to get it). Water holds enormous power when stored, but if it's dispersed it loses it's potency. Nothing and no-one is ever enough.
Asana: pelvis rocking, finding your neutral spine and your sitting bones to find the balance in the pelvis (find lightness and energy - hips/pelvis forward creates outward passionate relationship energies, hips/pelvis backwards turns energies inwards creates a feeling of celebacy/calmness), utkatasana, virabhadrasana I & II (stabilise pelvis then engage your lower abs to find spaciousness, strength in natural curve thru side body and to crown of head), upavista konasana (2nd toe crease, knee & hip aligned and point up, feet flexed, 4 corners of feet pressing evenly, inner and outer arches lift, toes spread wide, enagage quads, neutral spine, head and chin aligned, shoulders away from ears), bhujangasana (rotate hips inwards 2 create space in lower back, tailbone lenthens down to heels, engage abs and push pubic bone into floor, soft buttocks, brestbone moves forward), adho mukha svanasana (sitting bones to sky, elbow bone points 2 floor), jathara parivrittasana (twist right frist to work ascending colon then left for descending colon, move hips opposite side to ensure alignment thru spine when twist)
Bandha: establish the connection with mula and uddiyana bandhas to feel light in the abdomen
Questions/Feelings: What are the unconscious patterns driving your life. Can you sustain relationships, Do you suffer from an over abundance or lack of desire, Do you make resolutions but not have the power to carry them out. Do you feel ok sharing emotions, Do you feel happy and connected to life. Supress natural emotions and needs. Do you consume more than you need, or feel guilty, anxious, lack energy. Alternatively are you feeling energetic, healthy, full of vitality, love life , outgoing and content with your life.
